How Is RADMOR Different From Traditional Golf Brands?

RADMOR began with a belief that golf clothing could be approached from a different perspective, one shaped equally by a lifetime spent playing the game and decades spent designing and making premium clothing.

Our founders, Scott Morrison and Bob Conrad, first met as teammates and roommates at the University of Washington more than 30 years ago. After college, their lives followed very different paths. Scott moved to New York and spent more than two decades in fashion, founding Paper Denim & Cloth, Earnest Sewn and 3x1 and later serving as CEO and Creative Director of EVISU. Bob pursued professional golf, competing for more than six years on the Nationwide, Canadian and Asian tours.

When they eventually returned to an idea they had first discussed as college teammates, they brought those experiences together. RADMOR grew from an understanding of how clothing should be designed and made, how it needs to perform over 18 holes, and a shared belief that the materials we choose deserve greater consideration.

That combination continues to shape how we approach everything we make today.

A MORE THOUGHTFUL APPROACH TO MATERIALS

Technical fabrics have transformed golf apparel over the past several decades. They have made clothing lighter, stretchier, easier to care for and increasingly capable of performing in a wide range of conditions. Much of that innovation, however, has historically depended on virgin polyester and other petroleum-based synthetic fibers.

That contradiction was one of the original inspirations behind RADMOR. Golf is a game with an unusually close relationship to the natural world, yet much of the clothing made for it relies heavily on newly produced plastic-based materials. We wondered whether we could take a more considered approach without sacrificing the performance golfers had come to expect.

Today, our collections use a range of premium Pima cotton, TENCEL, merino wool and recycled synthetic fibers such as REPREVE, choosing each material according to the needs of the garment. When stretch, moisture management or technical performance calls for synthetic fibers, we look to recycled alternatives wherever possible rather than automatically defaulting to virgin polyester.

Our Taylor Recycled Performance Polo is one example. On average, the recycled material used in each shirt represents approximately 14 post-consumer plastic bottles given another useful life. Across thousands of garments, decisions like these begin to have a meaningful cumulative effect by putting existing material back into use and reducing the need for newly produced petroleum-based fibers.

We don’t suggest that any material is perfect. Natural fibers require resources to grow and process, while recycled synthetics have their own limitations. Our responsibility, as we see it, is simply to understand those trade-offs and make more thoughtful choices wherever we reasonably can.

DESIGNED WITH A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW

RADMOR is unmistakably a golf brand, but our approach to design has always been informed by a world beyond traditional golf apparel.

Scott’s career in premium fashion brought an appreciation for fabric, proportion, construction and the subtle details that determine how clothing feels when it is worn. Bob’s experience as a collegiate and professional golfer brought an equally important understanding of movement, comfort and what clothing actually needs to do over the course of a round.

Bringing those perspectives together has allowed us to think about golf clothing somewhat differently.

A polo still needs to move naturally through a full swing, remain comfortable over 18 holes and perform appropriately for the conditions. But we also believe it should look equally considered after the round is finished. The same is true of a trouser, sweater or jacket. We want each piece to belong in a broader wardrobe rather than exist solely as a uniform for the golf course.

That thinking influences everything from the fabrics and colors we choose to the way our garments are proportioned. Our silhouettes tend to be cleaner and more contemporary, our palettes more restrained, and our materials selected as much for how they feel and age as for how they perform.

The result is clothing designed specifically with golf in mind, but never limited by it.

A QUIETER EXPRESSION OF GOLF

One of the things we love most about golf today is how much room there is for different expressions of the game. Traditional club style, technical sportswear, bold prints, streetwear and fashion all have a place, and the expansion of golf culture has made the game more interesting because of it.

RADMOR has simply chosen a quieter point of view.

Our collections tend toward thoughtful colors, subtle branding, refined materials and silhouettes that are less dependent on a particular trend or season. Rather than designing clothing primarily to attract attention, we prefer pieces that reveal themselves through fabric, fit and the experience of wearing them.

We believe restraint can be its own form of expression. The clothes should complement the person wearing them rather than compete with them, and ideally become the pieces you return to precisely because they continue to feel relevant.

That philosophy extends beyond aesthetics. Designing something that remains desirable for years is also part of how we think about responsible consumption.

SUSTAINABILITY AS AN ONGOING PRACTICE

Sustainability was one of the ideas that led to the creation of RADMOR, and it continues to influence the decisions we make today. Over time, however, our understanding of what sustainability means has become more nuanced.

There is no perfectly sustainable material and no impact-free piece of clothing. Every fiber requires resources, every garment must be manufactured and transported, and eventually every product reaches the end of its useful life. For us, the more meaningful question is how we can make better decisions throughout that process.

That means using natural and cellulose-based fibers where appropriate, choosing recycled synthetics when technical performance requires them, reducing unnecessary reliance on virgin polyester and supporting material systems that give existing waste another useful purpose.

Recycled material systems can also play a role in addressing plastic waste before it reaches the environment. Programs such as REPREVE Our Ocean, for example, source plastic bottles from communities near coastlines where waste is at greater risk of entering waterways and marine environments. While not every recycled fabric is made from ocean-bound plastic, initiatives like these demonstrate how better sourcing and recycling infrastructure can help keep existing plastic in circulation rather than allowing it to become pollution.

Just as importantly, we believe sustainability includes longevity. A garment made from a thoughtful material is only truly successful if someone wants to wear it repeatedly and keep it for a long time.

That is why our philosophy has remained relatively simple from the beginning: buy less, buy better, take care of it and wear it for years.

MADE FOR GOLF AND THE LIFE AROUND IT

Golf will always be at the center of RADMOR. It is how our founders met, where the idea for the company began and the community that has shaped much of their lives.

But anyone who loves the game knows that golf rarely exists in isolation. A round becomes lunch with friends, a weekend away, a walk through a new city or simply another part of an ordinary day. We design RADMOR with that broader life in mind.

A polo should feel as natural at dinner as it does standing on the first tee. A trouser should work with sneakers as easily as golf shoes. A merino sweater should be something you reach for because you love the sweater, not because you happen to have a tee time.

This may ultimately be the simplest way to explain what makes RADMOR different. We don’t see golf apparel as a separate category of clothing that begins and ends at the course. We see it as part of a wardrobe, informed by the game but designed for a much larger life.

THE RADMOR APPROACH

RADMOR Traditional Golf Apparel
Materials Natural, cellulose-based and recycled fibers selected according to the garment Often centered around technical synthetic fabrics and performance blends
Fit Modern, considered silhouettes intended to work on and beyond the course Traditionally roomier silhouettes developed primarily around golf
Design Influenced by fashion, golf and the Pacific Northwest Often rooted primarily in sport, club tradition and athletic performance
Sustainability Integrated into material selection, design and our philosophy of longevity Approach varies considerably by brand and collection
Versatility Designed as part of a broader everyday wardrobe Traditionally designed primarily around the golf course

We have great respect for the traditions of golf and for the brands that have helped shape what golfers wear. RADMOR was never created because we believed there was only one right way to make golf clothing.

We simply came to it from a different place, bringing together more than 30 years of friendship, a lifetime in the game and decades of experience making clothes. That history continues to inform our belief that golf apparel can perform beautifully, be made more thoughtfully and have a life that extends well beyond the course.

Always designed to be worn, well, beyond.
